As James Madisons baseball team’s season is in its last few weeks and getting ready for the conference tournament, I got the chance to talk to redshirt senior Tanner Dofflemyer. He reflects on the season, talks about the conference tournament and gives his thoughts on the team moving forward to next season.

Taylor: Compared to last year at this point in the season, how is the team doing?

Tanner: Around the same record, last year we started out hot with a record around 18-4 then next thing we knew we were like 20-17 but this year we have handled adversity good. When we have a bad game we are able to refocus and play good the next day, instead of a snow ball effect.

Taylor: How many players did you lose last year?

Tanner: 6 seniors and 1 junior got drafted.

Taylor: Has it been hard filling their spots and has losing them affected team chemistry at all?

Tanner: They were good players but it hasn’t effected the chemistry. I believe as a whole this is one of the closest teams I’ve played on.

Taylor: How is the team looking moving forward with the current players you have and recruits coming in?

Tanner: As we close out conference play with 3 weekends left, I believe we are going to make some noise heading into the conference tournament.

Taylor: And what about for the the next few seasons? Will the team be just as competitive, if not more, or will there be some rebuilding?

Tanner: I think it will be just as competitive, if not more. The coaches have done a job of recruiting and bringing in good players.
